Problems Rendering IFS

"1. UF cannot render to disk files containing IFS Layers without crashing. I would like to render a large file so that it may be printed at a size of 24in X 20in at 300 dpi. How do I get this to a PNG format?

2. When rendering files to disk the pixel/second rate slows down as the file is processed. Why?

Thanks,

IFS are, I think, actually flame-type fractals and I think the restrictions may apply here also. The page says 2Gb is the limit but I've found it to be more like 1.3 to 1.5. For some reason, I don't seem to be able to render even to the 1.3Gb point anymore. Not sure if it's due to my machine (I have 4Gb RAM), something different about the newer versions of UF or maybe something different about Apophysis and/or the translation ucl we have to use. I was able to only go to 14"x14" recently.

A thing you might try, especially if your IFS shape doesn't take up the entire fractal window, is to surround it with a Clipping mapping and make all of the unneeded areas transparent with the clip. It speeds up the drawing time a lot - I'm not sure it helps much when rendering as far as the size limit goes - I've only tried it once and I don't think it helped but I need to test that more. Good luck!
