I have revised Image Traps. The old version had the image stuff hard wired into the formula. This has now been replaced with PlugIns. The Image plugin is called Coloring Trap Image Tiles, and when it is plugged in, performance should be identical to the old version. There are some additional Coloring Trap PlugIns that have also been added reb.ulb.
Image Traps is versioned, and I checked to make sure uprs made with the old versions perform correctly, such as the ones I uploaded to the list.
Here is an example that uses a very interesting Coloring Trap plugin. It's called Formula + Direct Coloring Trap, and it uses a user-selected fractal formula and a user selected fractal coloring as the color trap. In this case I selected Mandelbrot and smooth coloring. You can see Mandelbrot structures throughout the image from this interesting plugin. Because the plugin uses iterations for the Mandelbrot on top of the normal iterations, as does the texture plugin, this upr tends to suck the life out of your computer. It took 19 minutes to run on my PC.

Under the heading 'Image and Coloring,' you will find 'Coloring Trap Image Tiles.' Click on the triangle to the left of this PlugIn and the parameters will open up including the 'Image Import' parameter. I too had trouble finding the image the first time I played with this example. Perhaps the parameters should be open/visible by default for this PlugIn.

Thanks Juliette - to find the slot where the image is imported you need to expand the 'Image and Colorings' section on the outside coloring tab (click on the little arrow to the left), and then do the same on the 'colors' section which will then be visible - this will then reveal the parameters for the coloring class object used, in this case Coloring Trap Image Tiles from reb.ulb.

Image Traps has some tricky, but very useful features. Gill is wrong about transparency and gradients. You just need to know how to do it. You should see a parameter called "No Image Color". Set that to transparent and your gradient transparency will work fine.
Although Image Traps can do most everything that Orbit Traps Gradient (UF5) can do, it is a direct coloring method and can do much more than Orbit Traps Gradient. It is also very different from Orbit Traps Direct (UF5)..
Internally Image Traps maintains two separate layers which behave very much like the layer, merging and opacity on the Outside tab. The coloring from the "Orbit Traps" side of the method use all the features of Orbit Traps including gradients and gradient transparency. The coloring from the "Colors" plugin (default "No Color") forms the other internal layer. When the default "No Color" is in place the user will see the parameter "No Image Color" which acts as the placeholder for that layer. It has no effect unless the gradient has transparent regions, and then the "No Image Color" will be seen in those regions unless No Image Color is also transparent. To really understand all of this a full tutorial will be needed, which will be provided when we get to image imports.
Concerning your upr, the image will not make a seamless tile unless the magnification is 0.6366. You have a different magnification, so your tile will not be seamless. You can test whether your image will tile seamlessly by using Image Tiles which is in reb5.ulb. Here is an example upr that uses JuliaTile that I posted earlier.

Here is the correction to your upr and another upr using Image Tiles that shows that the corrected upr gives a seamless tile. I also made the corrections so that the top layer transparency is determined only by the gradient.
