Hi Don,
"Your beautiful and interesting FP### posts this week are really providing a rich ground for learning some effective and useful techniques. I really appreciate your sharing them."
Thank you.
"On this one I see that you're using Joukowskij Function Colouring....If it's something that might be described without much difficulty could you share how you would go about making this choice?"
LOL. You confuse me with someone who knows what he is doing. ;-) I don't know anything about Joukowskij Function Coloring. I know around a dozen color formulas well, but sometimes they "fail" me. That is I want something for an image and I cannot find in my working standard set of color formulas. When that happens, I go into seeking mode and exploring the hundreds of other formulas looking for something that "works." In this case I was looking for something soft to fill the space that also reflected some of the shape of the main subject.
My seeking is not totally random. Eighteen months ago I did a shallow survey of all the color formulas in the database. Using the same Julia fractal formula, I experimented with all the color formulas in the database. For each formula, I create a set of layers of anything I found that was interesting. Then I exported an image for each layer. The result is an image library that I peruse every so often and a preference for certain authors and formulas. This is not the first time Joukowski was a good fit.
(Note this survey is far from ideal given that many of the coloring formulas are designed for some special purpose that would not be exposed by Julia and that I did not understand many/most of the settings.)
