There are two active formula writers who have written formulas for 3D scenes, myself and Dave Makin. I don't have my UF5 updates ready for public consumption yet, but I have posted many UF4 3D scenes. These come in two flavors:
1. Circle/Sphere inversion fractals, including Kleinian Inversions
2. Quaternion/Hypernion/JuliaBrot fractals.
Both flavors are raytraced, and both are done in UF(4).
Here are three examples. The first example is a Kleinian Inversion fractal, specifically the 1/10 double cusp. The second and third examples are Quaternions.

I didn't quite understand what you meant by "3D fractals" (but then again, English is not my first language, so please forgive my lack of understanding). Can they be viewed in 3D? If so, how? What are "3D shaders"?

They are 2d projection pictures from a 3d scene, like photographs. (work in progress!) Basically, these are shots from inside reflective dodecahedrons or icosahedrons (platonic bodies) and spheres. I'm using an obscure but very capable 3d program for this: Realsoft3d (not free unfortunately). By '3d shaders' I mean color patterns on a surface in a three dimensional world. Hard to explain in a nutshell...
